Teachers voted Barbara Luckett as Jaycee’s Senior of the Month. But, she has more accomplishments than just that.
Barbara has been in the Key Club since her freshman year. She has also been the Key Club secretary for 11th and 12th grade. Key Club has changed Barbara’s life. The club has taught her how to be a better leader as she learned how much effort it takes for an organization to run smoothly.
She has been able to collect items to send to troops overseas, and she has worked on numerous other projects. “Some of the other projects that I have done for the Key Club includes participating in Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF, making hats and toiletry kits for the Children’s Miracle Networks, working at the basketball concession stand, raising money for the Walk of Dimceses, helping organize and run the SHS Chicken Race, making exam goody bags, serving dinner at the homeless shelter, organizing breakfasts for the teachers, serving lunch to a traveling college choir, parking cars at home football games, and buying food/presents for a needy family for Thanksgiving and Christmas.”
“Key Club does a lot for our school and community, and I feel honored to have been able to work with other officers and our sponsor to do so much.”
She also belongs to National Honor Society. She has been in National Honor Society since the end of her sophomore year. Barbara volunteers for National Honor Society and has done things such as working at the basketball concession stand, helped serve food at induction ceremonies, worked at fundraiser car washes and much more.
She volunteers for her church, The Presbyterian Church of Fredericksburg, in downtown Fredericksburg. She attends mission trips in upstate New York and inner city St. Louis.
When she went to upstate New York for her church’s mission trip, she helped rebuild houses. Her group spent the week insulating and residing a home. “In inner-city St. Louis, we worked on a Habitat for Humanity building, did some construction work, cleared brush and fallen tree limbs, worked in homeless shelters, soup kitchens, day-care centers, and nursing homes.”
Barbara is the assistant editor-in-chief on the yearbook staff. In the past, her job was to look over final layouts, check for spelling or grammatical errors, incorrect alignment and pictures that needed to be replaced.
