The holiday season is a time for giving, and students at Stafford High School have plenty of opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others this year.
One of the most popular programs is the Adopt-an-Angel initiative, which matches donors with children in need. Participants receive the name and wish list of a child from a low-income family and purchase a gift for them to be distributed before Christmas. The program ensures that children who might otherwise go without receive something special during the holiday season.
“It really puts things in perspective,” said senior Jessica Moore. “You think about what you’re getting for Christmas, and then you realize there are kids out there who won’t get anything unless someone steps up. It feels good to be that person.”
Beyond Adopt-an-Angel, local organizations are accepting donations of toys, clothing, non-perishable food items, and cash throughout the month of December. Students looking to volunteer their time can find opportunities through the school’s Key Club, National Honor Society, or through local churches and community centers.
The giving spirit isn’t limited to material donations. Volunteering at soup kitchens, visiting nursing homes, or simply reaching out to neighbors who may be lonely during the holidays can make an equally powerful impact.
As the semester winds down and finals approach, it can be easy to get caught up in the stress of the season. But taking even a small amount of time to help someone else is one of the best ways to remember what the holidays are really about.
