After years of substituting, Christopher Lloyd has finally landed a full-time teaching position at Stafford High School, and he couldn’t be more excited about it.
Lloyd, who grew up in the Fredericksburg area, attended Penn State for three years before transferring to Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania, where he graduated with a degree in Mathematics. After a brief stint in the business world, he decided that teaching was his true calling.
“I always had a feeling that I wanted to work with kids,” said Lloyd. “After working in business for a while, I knew that teaching was where I needed to be.”
Lloyd spent several years substituting in Stafford County before earning his full-time position. He currently teaches Algebra I and Geometry, and also serves as an assistant volleyball coach.
“Substituting was a great way for me to get to know the students and the school system,” said Lloyd. “It gave me a real feel for what it would be like to have my own classroom.”
Students seem equally thrilled to have Lloyd as a permanent teacher. He brings a relaxed but focused approach to his math classes, making difficult concepts more accessible to his students.
“Mr. Lloyd is a really good teacher,” said one student. “He explains things in a way that makes sense, and he doesn’t make you feel stupid if you don’t understand right away.”
Lloyd says he is looking forward to building long-term relationships with students and becoming a lasting part of the Stafford community.
