About Gillan

I started as a reporter.

Fourteen years later, I lead communications strategy for healthcare, public health, and technology organizations.

Not a communications professional with a journalism minor — an actual reporter, filing stories for regional papers and magazines across Virginia and Georgia, learning fast that clarity and honesty were the only tools you had.

Fourteen years later, I’ve written talking points for senior CDC leadership during an mPox outbreak. I’ve helped a physician group build a media presence from scratch. I’ve ghostwritten thought leadership for health system executives that earned thousands of engagements on LinkedIn, and launched newsletters that reached 50,000 inboxes at a 46% open rate.

Who is this for? What do they actually need to hear? What’s the most specific, honest way to say it? The scale is the only thing that changed.

Based in Atlanta, Georgia — working with organizations nationwide.

What I do

I work at the intersection of substance and story.

I specialize in executive ghostwriting, press and media relations, editorial strategy, and digital content — with deep experience in healthcare IT, public health, and complex regulatory environments. I can interview a clinical informaticist and turn what they said into a LinkedIn article that a CFO will actually finish reading.

I’ve led communications through breaking news, managed relationships with 80+ subject matter experts simultaneously, and built content programs from scratch at organizations that didn’t have them.

I’ve also kept writing for myself.

My bylined essays in HuffPost and SheKnows cover subjects I’ve lived — the invisible expectations placed on fathers, reproductive autonomy, what it means to lose and reclaim control over your own body.

That writing and my professional work aren’t separate. They come from the same conviction: that clarity is a form of respect, and that the right story, told well, can shift how people see something.

Good work starts with a conversation.

Whether you’re looking for a communications partner for a long-term engagement, a ghostwriter for executive thought leadership, or a freelance writer for a specific piece — I’d like to hear what you’re working on.
